In 2016, alcoholic soft drinks like root beer gained in popularity, as well as weird concoctions such as mushroom-flavored coffee. What will be drinking in 2017? Some industry experts think the following:
Alternative waters. You’ve probably heard of coconut water, which has been touted for its health benefits. It’s still a popular drink, but coconut water products have been around for at least 10 years now, and it’s no longer the new water on the block. Well, get ready for cactus water.
“Cactus water is low in calories and nutrients. It is very similar to water in regards to nutrition facts, but it does contain betalains, which are potent antioxidants,” says Tory Tedrow, a registered dietitian, certified nutrition support clinician and head of nutrition for SugarChecked, a nutrition app. (Tedrow also appears in my recent blog post, “Goat Meat, Hemp Milk and More: 5 Foods You Will Eat or Avoid in 2017.”
