Legalized medical marijuana interest is growing across the country, and the ‘green rush’ is even getting support from President Obama, recently quoted in the New Yorker claiming marijuana is “no more dangerous than alcohol.” Furthermore, The New York Times, possibly the most influential publication in the U.S. if not the world, recently published a six-part series in favor of legalizing marijuana.
Cannabis industry though leader, Vincent Mehdizadeh, founder and senior strategist of Medbox, sat down with Wehoville’s Henry (Hank) Scott to talk about how Medbox’s safe dispensing machines are establishing legitimacy in the marijuana industry. Mehdizadeh, a client of Los Angeles tech public relations firm PMBC Group, explained how Medbox’s dispensers are systematically synced to comply with state regulations on storing, dispensing and controlling inventory for medical marijuana.
Unlike a normal vending machine that dispenses chips and candy and can be accessed by customers, Medbox’s safe dispensing machines actually sits behind the counter at licensed marijuana dispensaries providing better security. Medbox is an inventory control system which uses biometric technology and tracks what a customer has purchased, and it keeps records of marijuana inventory and sales on which states collect taxes.
As the company grew, Mehdizadeh moved its headquarters from Calabasas to West Hollywood, as he thought that the location would be more conducive to his business.
“Sunset Strip and West Hollywood, it’s pretty iconic [and that] this could be a great place to entertain clients,” said Mehdizadeh.
Besides providing dispensing machines, Medbox works with entrepreneurs helping them set up dispensaries and Mehdizadeh oversees and advises these clients on “all the necessary oversight work.”
Mehdizadeh concludes saying that Medbox is “the only company in the marijuana sector that generates millions in revenue without actually touching the product.”
