The old adage goes that you are more likely to be struck by lightning than win the lottery. Lucky for them, millions of people do beat the odds; but then they don’t claim their prizes. Shockingly, millions of winning tickets go unchecked and result in billions of dollars in unclaimed prizes. But wait; now there is an app that does just that, as recently featured on Tech Cocktail.
Lottolotto, a client of Los Angeles tech public relations firm PMBC Group, is bringing the lottery system into the modern digital age by developing an easy-to-use app.
The new free app allows users to check their lottery tickets for every U.S. lottery from multi-state to daily drawing. Available on all Android and Apple devices Lottolotto allows a user to take a picture of their lottery ticket with their phone or tablet. Lottolotto identifies the lottery game, drawing date and ticket numbers and results are provided instantly for past drawings and notifications sent for future drawings.
Using the app is quite simple, but CEO Brett Jacobson tells Tech Cocktail, “Every state has a different ticket, a different size, a different material [and] a different security feature,” which meant that programming the app was the most challenging part.
Other lottery apps require users to manually input data such as the drawing state, drawing date and even make users crop their ticket to only show the numbers, but Lottolotto does all of that for users. Lottolotto is the only app that “that recognizes all the lotteries – daily, retail, and national,” says Jacobson. Furthermore, the app allows users to participate in lottery pools, find a convenient location to collect winnings and track results of previous lotteries.
Jacobson also goes on to say that the lottery offers “a built-in media story” 10 times a year when the jackpot starts crossing $100 to $250 million. Along with guerilla marketing, Lottolotto is producing two mini-series to spread the word. The first will be called “The Biggest Lottery Winner of All Time” and is scheduled for September.
