Lottolotto is on a mission to make sure no one misses out on their lottery winnings, as reported in Hudson Valley’s Poughkeepsie Journal. The newspaper covered the recent story of an unclaimed winning ticket for the eight biggest jackpot in Mega Millions’ history, sold at a Middletown gas station in upstate New York.
It took over two months for the Mega Millions jackpot to reach that number, and one lucky person beat the onein-260-million odds to win the jackpot prize.
“More than 34 million winning lottery tickets go unclaimed every year because people don’t know that they’ve won,” says Brett Jacobson, CEO of Lottolotto, a client of Los Angeles tech and apps public relations firm PMBC Group. “More than $2 billion in unclaimed prizes went unclaimed this past year.”
Many lottery tickets go unclaimed because players forget to check their tickets, or they do not realize they could win secondary prizes even after the jackpot winners are announced. With Lottolotto, more people will be able to claim these prizes.
Jacobson was inspired to create the app after checking old tickets and finding out that they had already expired. Depending on the state and lottery game, players have anywhere from six months to a year to claim prizes.
Lottolotto is the only lottery app that does not require any user input. Players scan the ticket with their phone or tablet and the app does the rest. Using optimal character recognition technology, Lottolotto tells users instantly of the results or alert users when the final drawings are held. Lottolotto also directs players to the nearest retailer to cash in on prizes. There is even the option of sharing tickets in a pool.
The free app is available for download for both Apple and Android.
