The history of cooking and archiving recipes has always been tedious. Step-by-step ingredient mixing was always daunting and vaguely timed, and cookbooks can be quite cumbersome. To accumulate a large collection of recipes, one had to amass a huge library or commit to memorizing complete dishes. However, with the advent of mobile technology, SideChef has arrived to revolutionize the whole process. This client of tech and app public relations firm PMBC Group is the success story of Kevin Yu, a former community executive for Blizzard Entertainment. This past week, SideChef was covered in a feature on MassLive.
In MassLive’s coverage, the author was especially fond of the seemingly endless collection of fare in the app. SideChef’s catalogue boasts over 1,000 recipes ranging from top chefs’ to star bloggers’ to ordinary users’ creations. Partnerships with Le Cordon Bleu and the American Culinary Federation ensure quality throughout the app’s selection. Any user may also upload dishes and create a collection of favorites. Users may provide comprehensive feedback by rating any recipe they like using a variety of evaluation categories.
On the technical side of things, SideChef accommodates for any skill level, providing easy-to-follow images and vocalized instructions. Cooks may respond with vocal commands as well to keep the process moving when their hands are full or dirty. The app additionally times each step of each recipe such that results will be of optimal quality: no over- or under-cooking. The ultimate goal of Yu’s creation is streamlining the cooking process and ensuring accessibility for the masses; in these areas, he has more than adequately delivered. SideChef’s user base leaped over the 30,000 mark in just its first week, and its audience continues to gain momentum.
Released just last month, SideChef is available for free on iOS devices.
