Business is booming with SideChef. At the helm of the “foodie revolution” as well as the mobile app industry, Kevin Yu’s brainchild ensures that even the most complicated recipes seem approachable to foodies of any cooking level. A client of Los Angeles tech and app public relations firm PMBC Group, SideChef is helping chefs everywhere hone their culinary abilities.
USC’s Neon Tommy took a closer look at SideChef for its ease of use and seemingly limitless selection of recipes. Exploring all aspects of the software, the overview was filled with overall praise for the ambitious iOS and Android app.
Aspiring chefs of any skill level will find something to learn from SideChef. It enumerates steps in the cooking process similarly to objectives in video games—only it’s easier. Simple images depict instructions through each stage of a recipe as users respond either with the touch of a finger or a voice command if their hands are full. The app can speak as well, describing the entire process so chefs don’t skip a beat.
This allows cooks to pay attention to the quality of the food, no longer having to thumb between pages and worry about the timing of cooking with the app’s automatic timers. Food will be prepared according to both audio and visual instructions with a picture of how the food should look for every step of the cooking process.
Neon Tommy described SideChef’s step-by-step process as “foolproof,” boasting its Siri-like vocal capabilities, helpful images and clear user interface. The social aspect of the app is one of its biggest features as well: users may give complete feedback to every aspect of others’ uploaded recipes and add to its overall collection of fare. As well-rounded as the app is, it’s no wonder SideChef is growing as fast as it is.
