(Los Angeles, CA) – CEO and Founder of Real Office Centers (ROC) Santa Monica, Ron McElroy sat down with Lindsay Holloway of the Examiner.com to speak about what is happening in what used to be the old Google offices. Lindsay works in the area and noticed the change and wanted to inquire.
Ron spoke on the short history of ROC Santa Monica, opening in October of 2012. They lease to startups and midsize companies who work with work tables, private offices, conference rooms and more. Lindsay got a tour of the office and got to see where ROC is soon to have their art studio, green room, postproduction lab, videoconference lounge and more. Lastly, on the third floor with their rooftop deck, will soon be a full commercial kitchen, cafeteria, additional workspaces, and room for events. Currently housing 60 – 70 companies, Ron sees the numbers doubling once the second and third floor are completed.
Ron stressed to Lindsay that ROC is all about the relationships formed there. Santa Monica has a high number of shared workspaces, but Ron explained that size is a key competitive factor. Ron was quoted saying, “We’re all working for the same goal, but you can’t house these types of companies and create these types of relationships in a 6,000-square-foot space.”
ROC has created relationships with referencing sponsors like AT&T and Belvedere Vodka, alliances with UCLA and USC and partnerships with various venture capital firms that work closely with ROC members. Both Karlin Ventures and Tech Coast Angeles are two investing firms that work with ROC tenants. Accelerators and incubators too have partnered with ROC such as Los Angeles’ General Assembly and local law firm Stradling Yocca Carlson & Rauth.
Ron has faith in ROC saying, ““Yes, we made sure to work in vibrant colors and raw surfaces, but we also brought in social elements, a superior staff and hip companies. Together, it breeds an environment conducive to a social network in person.” He plans to continuing to expand the ROC empire from its six locations to Pasadena, Mexico, Hawaii, New York, and Latin America.
